Sal Cracchiolo, lead trumpet for the legendary Tower of Power and former trumpeter of Grammy Award Winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, has teamed up with singer Melanie Jackson to incorporate a wonderful blend of jazz standards and originals done with a Latin touch. "Fly" was nominated for a Latin Grammy, under the Latin Jazz category, in 2002.
The music herein is delightful. They are wonderful tunes (some originals by Sal and his cohorts, and lyrics by Melanie), and great arrangements of some classics. I hope this music brings the entire world the great pleasure and joy of getting to know Sal and Melanie.
- Bobby Shew, Legendary trumpeter and jazz educator.
Sal Cracchiolo and Melanie Jackson bring years of musical performance and experience to produce one tight little Latin Jazz package in their debut CD, "FLY". Sal and Melanie came together because of their love of jazz, Latin jazz, and Brazilian music. This group is their baby and the music has been carefully chosen and crafted to create moods of love, laughter and fun – all served up just for jazz lovers.
With a roster of great musicians (Gary Foster, Poncho Sanchez, Joe Rotondi Jr., Jim Szylagi, Rene Camacho, Putter Smith, Kendall Kay, and Jose "Papo" Rodriguez) the CD encompasses 12 tunes of Latin, Brazilian and Jazz Standards with arrangements by Charlie Otwell.
